“GOD, PLEASE GRANT US LEADERS THAT THINK WELL FOR NIGERIA”

By Dr. Bukola Williams
(Coins-Dispensing ATMs; Another Outstanding Blunder By Sanusi Lamido Sanusi)
Human Anatomy teaches us that the cerebrum is that part of the brain which is associated with conscious thoughts and manifestation of Higher Order thinking skills. But lately, I have been thinking perhaps there is a yet to be identified part of thinking which is peculiar to people of Nigerian origin, especially those who become our leaders. If I am wrong, then I need to be helped with a possible explanation with regards to the attitude (actions and reactions) of some of our leaders and so-called “champions” to issues. Perhaps theirs is a phenomenal acquired modification of the cerebrum which alters with elements of compromise the way they think.
The other day, we were made to believe that 1500 buses will provide adequate palliation for 36 States, about 744 Local Governments, and 170 million people. Even the ants from which people are sometimes advised to learn wisdom will not falter in such “notorious” estimations. But funny enough, those perceived palliative measures the impact of which we are feeling so well but on the negative to say the least were perhaps never thought about even at the brink of the “illegal” subsidy removal. It was when the government’s policy was heavily faulted with no available justification that our leaders remembered there was a need for palliation; putting the cart before the horse. It was the same compromised thinking process; the same that had suggested that 1500 buses will work for 170 million people, this by a government that speaks trillions in budgetary terms…even the owner of Peace Mass Transit (PMT) recently said he has about 2000 buses in his services. So, consider government’s 1500 buses and an individual’s 2000 buses; can you see that we do not have a “thinking” government.
It is this same “Pentium 2 Thought System of Leadership” that would make someone come out to say the First Lady is only “resting” amidst widespread known fact that she is on the sick or recovery bed…And then an Honourable House member turning his cap into a mobile ATM loading machine on a shameful corrupt assignment. Then suddenly, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and the CBN, having seen the unpopularity of their poorly thought financial policy, started to make moves about introducing Coins-Dispensing ATMs. OMG!!!
I am forced to ask which Economics textbooks are these people (Sanusi and co) reading. Or, maybe they are using the yet to be identified area of thinking in the brain that is peculiar to our leadership. But it is obvious that if that unimaginable area does exist, then it is altogether obsolete, faulty and will never yield a happy, healthy and prosperous nation that we earnestly seek and pray for. I am sure that Mallam Sanusi and his allies will patronize the proposed Coins-Dispensing ATMs and withdraw N50, 000 worth of coins, an equivalent of 500 pieces of N50 coin. I am just certain that these people are either not thinking properly or they take all 170 million plus Nigerians as being “blessed” with modified Down Syndrome.
The best book I have ever read and still do read says, “As a man thinks (in his heart), so he is”. This simply means that your life is an exact mirror image of your thoughts. You cannot be bigger than your thoughts. Nigeria is where it is today because we have leaders who either do not think well or do not mean well for Nigerians.
I am glad that the Senate and the House of Representatives have asked both President Jonathan and Mallam Sanusi to stop all activities on the issuance of the proposed N5, 000 currency note and restructuring of lower denominations. It is a victory for the poor and less-privileged Nigerian; it is the more a victory for every one of us who sincerely care for Nigeria and wish her great things. And I do honestly believe that when we do gather in our places of prayers, one of the leading prayer points for our leaders and leadership is that God should grant them the grace to think very well for our good, and then He should grant us right thinking leaders in future elections.
Countries like Japan and others in Asia are standing out no doubt because they think properly. No wonder one of their brands, Toshiba, talks about “Good Thinking…Good Product”. The product is a function of the thought process applied.
Nigerians, Nigerian leaders, think well! God bless Nigeria!!
