THE BACKSIDE OF LIFE (1 & 2)

THE BACKSIDE OF LIFE (1 & 2)

(Staying Strong When Life Appears Falling On You)
#GREATNESS SERIES ONLINE#

I am sure you have heard these words "Life isn't fair" many times from people. To many, life has never been anywhere near "bed of roses" but a cradle fitted with thorns which has torn and turned down many hopes. This has made many to colour life not just black but bad. But, is life really unfair?
People who have had things (constantly) going well for them and always living in an aura of wellness may never appreciate the pains felt by those on the "other side". Life truly has two sides of the coin, the "head" and the "tail", and there are times when it presents you "tail"...this is what is regarded as THE BACKSIDE OF LIFE.
THE BACKSIDE OF LIFE is when it appears like life isn't smiling at you; a time when it seems your world and wall are coming down crashing, when help of the helpers fail and comfort flees! It is a time that appears like everyone and everything is against you; when you never just seems to get things right and going well. It is like a nighttime that has tarried too long and made you lose hope that morning will ever come. In summary, it is that time when you appear not to be making any progress in life while others have gone ahead of you. Things are seen as upside down rather than right side up. And worst still, it emits the feeling that you are either backward or moving backward.
At this point, many have written themselves off and thrown away into the ocean depths any hope for a good life and better tomorrow. They conclude that life is not fair and that their own destiny in life is just to watch while others act in greatness. They feel their portion in life is to remain predominantly dependent and "everly" at the mercies of others. This is the unfortunate cycle of "thought-influence" that has made many people spectators (and never part) of good and great things in life.

It is in the quest to conquer the spectator life style that I found out some truths about life and greatness that you need to know. Life is in phases, wherever you find yourself now is just but a "passing phase"...you will not be there forever. It is a big generational lie for you to believe that you were created to just watch others excel while you remain a failure. We are endowed with equal opportunities to be unequaled in life. You were not created to be a spectator in life; you can also act your game. God didn't make you to just mark your name present on earth but to make your presence felt. God is not a scientist and so your life is not an experiment to see whether you will stand a chance in life or not. You are not an element of chance but a agent of change. If contraceptive pills could not stop you from being conceived, then you were not born by accident but to be great in life.
The backside of life is the bedside of life. However you must realize two basic elements of greatness which are put forth below;
ONE, do you realize that where you are now and you feel things are worse for you, that same place is another person's lifetime prayer point. For some people, if only God will help them get to where you are, they will count themselves as fulfilled in life. I learnt this truth a longtime ago. So, wherever you are, whatever you are going through, you must manifest the attitude of gratitude (to God).
When was the last time you thought it necessary that God deserves to be thanked if for nothing but for the fact that you are alive? To him that is joined to the living there is hope. Ungratefulness is unfaithfulness, and once you are unfaithful better things may be far from you. Think about it, in ALL things (not just in some things) give thanks including what you are passing through. Your attitude to gratitude simply defines your next altitude in life.
TWO, having developed the act and heart of thankfulness to God, you must have faith and hope that although today isn't palatable, but your tomorrow will be better. The fact is, everyone from time to time encounters setbacks in life. But the truth (not a fact now), setback in life could turn around as a setup for a comeback! Backwardness sometimes produces forward motions.
Think about it;
- An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backwards
- David's catapult that killed Goliath was first pulled backwards (like every other catapult) before hitting the target
- In long jumps, the athlete moves far backwards so as to get a forward propulsive drive that is able to break the record
- On a football pitch, the penalty kick taker, the free kick taker and the goal kick taker all move steps backward before shooting the ball forward. How far backward they go is determined by the range of shot they desire. If you want a long forward range, by principle you move further backwards.
FRIEND, DO YOU REALIZE THAT WHEN LIFE SEEMS TO BE DRAGGING YOU BACKWARDS WITH TOUGH SITUATIONS, CHALLENGES AND DIFFICULTIES, IT MEANS VERY SOON YOU ARE LAUNCHING FORWARD INTO SOMETHING GREAT? Pitfalls are actually peak-fronts in the making.
Remember, life is like a parade ground, you may be backward today but at the sound of "ABOUT TURN", the last becomes the first. That will be your story. I wish you greatness in life.

THE 13TH MONTH DIARY OF GREAT MEN

THE 13TH MONTH DIARY OF GREAT MEN
(THE GREATNESS SERIES ONLINE WITH DR. BUKOLA WILLIAMS)
 I was looking for the real reason why the snail has a record (with the slug) as the slowest animal in the world. It goes through life with a pace that even the tortoise would boast of being better. Some answers were supplied with some people of the opinion that the snail is slow because “it has a heavy shell above it”, “because it has only one foot to walk on”, “because it has no legs”, etc. But none quite satisfy me, so I made up my own theory on why the snail is so record slow. Do you know that the slowness of the snail may not be unconnected to the fact that it sleeps for an average of 3 to 4 years at a stretch! No wonder it is slow, very vulnerable, and an easy catch. Too much sleep is an enemy of progress in life. The more you sleep the less your speed and the greater the chances of other people overtaking you in life.
 In my book titled THE 7 GREATNESS DIMENSION (coming soon), I highlighted something called MY 13TH MONTH DIARY in one of the chapters. I said every great man does something that sets him apart from others. For Jesus, while His disciples slept, He stayed awake and prayed. There are 12 months in a year, but some men have 13 months. It is not on any calendar. It is a summation of the time they create out of all their odd times, tired moments, nights put together. It is a sum of the extra hours that they have stayed awake and/or worked while others slept and/or played.
 THE 13TH MONTH DIARY is a product of all the time they created out of inconvenience and tightness of schedules. To some, odd times are the peaks of breakdown but to great men, they are the heights of breakthrough which become the birthplace of greatness, touchstone of glory and cornerstone of success.
 Many are wishing for extra days but still sleep 8 hours every day. You can create an extra day by mopping up odd times from your day. That extra day is your day...I call mine "Bukoladay". So I have Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday and Bukoladay...simply 8 days a week. I live literally on 8days a week. You will never find that on any calendar, but check my diary, it is my 8th day. Now, multiply my extra day by 4weeks in a month, you will have 4 extra days a month. Then multiplied by 12 months in a year gives 28 solid additional days, an equivalent of a February. This is my 13th month diary!
 Everyday we are faced with busyness but you can do business out of busyness. When I'm asked how I get time, it's a 13th month phenomenon. Maybe you too can learn to stop sleeping too much so that your speed would increase. Those tired moments you consider as odd times could become UP time. This is what the great men we know do...they don't have two heads. You too can speed up and become great. Don't be like the snail.

JUST A LITTLE PUSH CAN MAKE A LIFETIME OF DIFFERENCE

JUST A LITTLE PUSH CAN MAKE A LIFETIME OF DIFFERENCE

(Culled from "My Story" in THE GREATNESS SERIES)

About 13 to 14years years ago, just before I began the art of writing, never would I have imagined anyone picking interest in reading my stuff. Besides, I was naïve and shy and dreaded appearing before any audience so much so that if I were to speak before an audience of 3 persons my feet would shiver and all the rehearsed words would vapourize.
 Back then, one day, my bosom friend, Michael Olu Titus (I celebrate him) looked at me (not considering surrounding factors) and said, "Bukola, you can write". What a push! He probably saw some minor "insignificant" works of mine, but he looked beyond them and saw things I never saw. With that push I set out, writing poems and many other stuff and passing them to my cousin, Lanre Obalaja (I celebrate him) to read through and make observations. He was always impressed and that left me an impression; "it would just be a matter of time". I got the courage and I've not stopped since then.
 Years have past, I've written a book, stood and talked infront of large audiences, been on TV and radio several times, interviewed great people..and receiving words of commendation by my mentor, Sam Adeyemi, but one thing has not departed from me, those words spoken by Michael Olu Titus. They are alive and ever new, never  ceasing to ring in my ears. They have formed the core of an unending motivation for me. They formed the PUSH that has kept me on my feet when situations bring me bending. When circumstances push me down and people despise what I try to do, those little words have been the much needed antidote to discouragement. When impossibility stares me in the face, my heartbeat changes to those words "Bukola, you CAN...", and a fresh blood of courage, faith and hope start to flow again.
 In this journey you should have something to keep you going. Anyone moving on the path of greatness in this present world is surely moving against the tides. Many times you fail and fall; many times you are hit below the belt by circumstances and people..but it is always better to die fighting for what you believe in, so at such points, just change your belt and resume the fight. Rejections are not always ejections but avenues for reflections. Those who reject you can only make you stronger. When they look down on you today, they are only teaching you not to look down on others when you get up there. Never give up, maintain the push.
 On this journey you get high and low moments, but I've found out that low moments could bring out high values. The darker the night, the brighter the light; the hotter the furnace, the brighter the gold. Greatness is often hidden inside a mud house. Look beyond today and have hope for tomorrow. When anyone tries to look down on you today, tell him to judge you by your tomorrow. Tomorrow is the better judge. When there is nothing to push you, push yourself!
 There are no odd moments. When things are not working is the best time to try. When you are down is the best time to rise. When anything or anyone presses you down, push yourself up. Odd moments can become up moments. Inside the O lies Opportunities; inside the D lies Dreams, and inside the last D lies Destiny. This is what I call The ODD Phenomenon I developed for myself. Your weakest moments are actually your strongest moments in disguise.
 I've learnt that;
# You never know what you can do until you are pushed
# You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you've got
# You never know how far you can go until you start something
 It is in our most frightful moments that we do the almost impossible things. Physiologically, they say it is due to the hormone called Adrenaline. I call it the PUSH HORMONE OF GREATNESS...just a little push can land you into a level unimaginable. And when no one is ready to push you, please push yourself. When you don't try, your chance is zero...when you try, you might just stand a chance, even if it is 1%. You can be great!
