The night also
represents tough situations. When clouds of frustrations hover over you and
your family and it seems the day of joy will not break.
The night could also be
a time in your life when your spiritual radar is reading low and you become
vulnerable to sin and the enemy. It is that time when it seems sin comes after
you after you have spoken and preached so much against it to others. It is that
time when you have to step up your spiritual race and hold on to faith and hope
than ever before. Such nights have swallowed great destinies and terminated big
reputations. Such nights have no respecter of persons.
Wasn’t it during such
nights that Peter became so vulnerable that he denied Jesus 3 times? “Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto
thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice” (Mathew
26:34). It was a cold night for Peter, “And
the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was
cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself”
(John 18:18). It was shortly after that coldness that Peter denied Jesus. When
you sense like the brethren are far away and you are tempted to sin...when
everything starts to get cold: your prayer life cold, your study life cold,
then be watchful beloved, it just might be night! Who then art thou oh brother
to play with the night on the path of lust for a sister? It is a night when
even the fire you carry can burn you if you are not careful...remember, “Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his
clothes not be burned?” (Proverbs 6:27).
It was during this same
night time that Judas departed... “He
then (Judas) having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night”
(John 13:30). Judas departed that night and has never returned till today. Many
nights have swallowed many up because they could not abide.
Even Jesus had His own “nights”,
but rather than sleep or become cold, he chose to pray: “And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to
his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray” (Mark 14:32). What to do
during those nights is to pray.
Can you pray with me:
“Lord, help me that no night shall take me away from your eternal will in
Jesus’ name”.
