TEXTS: Isaiah 1:4; Jeremiah 7:24; Psalm 40:14
“Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers,
children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked
the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward” (Isaiah 1:4).
“But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the
counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not
forward” (Jeremiah 7:24).
“Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to
destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil”
(Psalm 40:14)
From the above texts, it is obvious
that there are certain ways of lives that pull people backward (and not
forward) in life. It will be counter-productive to claim to be praying while
having these odd virtues in high concentration. They spoil consecration and
altar (divine) destinations. When your life is not correct, your destiny and
eternity cannot be right.
Today on SPIRIT SWORD we conclude
the teaching we began yesterday on the above topic. If you missed yesterday’s
message, follow this link:
(1) UNFORGIVENESS: Unforgiveness is one of the greatest weights
available. It slows down a person in life. To partner with unforgiveness is to
gain backwardness and face tribulation (when the saints are gone).
(2) WORLDLINESS: To be attached to the world is to be detached from
God, divine destiny and Heavenly eternity (James
4:4).
(3) DISCOURAGEMENT: “And Jesus
said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is
fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62).
(4) FEAR: Lack of courage/boldness is a minus sign that prevents from
pursuing greatness. Fear is anti-grace, and where grace is absent, struggles
are present.
(5) ENVY/JEALOUSY: There are people who are envious at other people’s
progress and success. This kind of heart quenches the fire of faith in your
life (and things will be hard for you) because faith works by love (Galatians
5:6).
(6) UNGRATEFULNESS: No gratitude, no altitude!
(7) UNFAITHFULNESS: To fail the test of faithfulness is to fail the
chance towards greatness (Luke 16:11). Unfaithfulness
with regards to money, relationship, ministry etc are all examples.
(8) SELF-CONFIDENCE: To depend on your wisdom or ability is to despise
God’s wisdom and ability and to become a victim of (Proverbs 3:5; 1 Samuel
2:9b).
(9) UNNECESSARY ATTACHMENT TO THE PAST: To be unnecessarily attached to
the past is to be unavoidably disconnected from the future. Commit your past to
God; do appropriate restitution and move away from the past.
