THE LOVE OF MONEY

TEXT: 1 Timothy 6:10-11

Money is one subject that has generated so many controversies in our time. The truth however is that money is a vital necessity for living on earth. In Heaven it is not needed. But there is one web of money that contains a venom that kills its victims – it is the love of money. Unlike what many say, money is not the root of all evil, the love of money is (1 Timothy 6:10). The question then is what is the love for money? The answer to this question is our focus on SPIRIT SWORD today.

1. The heart to be able to do anything (including the negative) to get money, e.g. stealing, forging papers, exaggerating figures, immorality, etc.

2. The inability to help others in need despite having the means to do so

3. When the search/pursuit of money takes over the place and time for God

4. When you think more of money than you think of Heaven, and when you value listening to how to make money than how to make Heaven. This is the desperate desire to be rich (1 Tim. 6:9).

5. When you are too concerned about getting money from people without interest in the source of the money (how they got the money)

6. Accepting bribe and/or paying to get jobs and contracts

7. When you can save money yet you cannot spend money for others in need or for God.

The love for money births greed, selfishness and trust in uncertain riches. It is unhealthy for eternity.

8. When you earn money yet it is hard for you to pay tithe. When your income has consistently increased yet your offering to God has remained the same over years.
