TEXT: Isaiah 59:1-3
Someone could be wondering, “How can a mere mortal man hinder
the all-powerful God?” The answer is ‘YES, it is possible.’ And today on SPIRIT
SWORD we look at how and why this happens.
God is a God of principles; He made them and operates by them
unless in situations where He operates outside a particular principle for a
particular purpose (This is called a miracle). God can do all things but by spiritual
principles there are certain things that would make Him not to move or do certain
works. Here are four (4) of such;
(1) INIQUITY (Isaiah
59:1-3)
Sin hinders God’s move in the life of the affected person.
God does not hear the prayers of sinners (John 9:31).
“And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes
from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full
of blood” (Isaiah 1:15).
Someone can pray for 24 hours at a stretch; once there is
(unconfessed) sin, work done is equal to zero. This is why you have to beware
of those prayers houses where they claim God answers all prayers and yet they
have no problem with sinful ways of lives. God cannot be mocked.
(2) FEAR AND
DISOBEDIENCE
When Lot disobeyed and feared to do what God’s messengers
told him to do, here what God said through them: “For I cannot do any thing till
thou be come thither” (Gen. 19:22).
Fear and disobedience hinder God’s move. You cannot see God’s
full move in your life if your foundation is disobedience.
(3) LACK OF FAITH
Without faith it is impossible to please God. In other words,
if there is no faith, God cannot move. Prayer alone does not move God, it is ‘the prayer of faith’ that moves God.
(4) ABSENCE OF LOVE
God is love. Anything outside love puts God away. You cannot
be bitter towards someone or hate somebody and yet you spend hours praying. God
won’t be moved. Even if you apply all the faith in the world, it still would
not work because “faith worketh by love” (Gal. 5:6a). So, if your neighbour has
a baby and you are angry because of that, but you are praying to God to give
you a baby – this is waste of time and energy. Hatred hinders God from moving
your direction.
As you root out these obstacles to God’s move, may you begin
to experience God’s grace and power like you have never tasted before in Jesus’
name.
