WHEN SHALL NIGERIAN LEADERSHIP AND POLITICIANS TREAD THE PATH OF HONOUR?

(GLEANINGS FROM UNITED STATES PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS)
Well, I think our politicians on this side of the globe (especially Nigeria) can pick one positive from the US elections and this is the fact that politics is not a do or die affair, and no man's blood deserves to be shed just because of another man's political ambition and elections.
It is unfortunate that in Nigeria politics have turned into an occupation for many unsuccessful businessmen and the successful who wish to increase their wealth-span overnight...no wonder Nigeria will have the highest statistical figure of "Emergency Billionaires". To so many politicians, it starts with rituals in which innocent lives are murdered as a diabolical means of securing power which is something only GOD can give. Then, thuggery in which the hooligans brandish dangerous weapons and kill at will anyone who is not on their side. And then when they lose the elections hell is let loose...innocent lives go down the grave. Imagine an evil politician who lost the seat of ORDINARY Local Government Chairman in Okene only to go ahead and mobilize gun men to attack a church of innocent worshippers, killing many in the process. What was his intention? To create chaos and unrest simply because he lost, not a Senatorial, Gubernatorial or Presidential election...but a Local Government election. God have mercy! There is judgment waiting for the wicked.
Our government should put in place a corruption-free electoral process, and our politicians should accept defeat with humility. These would be the foundations for the great nation we seek and pray for.
Meanwhile, as I watched Romney concede defeat in front of crying Republican supporters, and listened to his declaration of his support for America and Obama, I could only wish my beloved country, Nigeria, can tread this same path of politics and honour into a future of greatness.
