The
most colourful things in life are not the most important things for life.
Not
everything that has colour has honour.
Beauty
can be a deception of vanity. The Bible says, “Beauty is vain” (Proverbs 31:30).
Whatever
choice you have to make in life should be guided by the leading as well as the
fear of God. Colourful things do not always portend glorious end. Do not allow
flamboyance be the major reason why you enter a relationship, pick up a job,
join a ministry, or embrace a decision/proposal.
·
Achan saw
beautiful and colourful things but he didn’t know they were accursed things and
in them was the sting of death (Joshua 7).
·
Eve was carried
away by the beauty of a forbidden fruit...she did not realise that it was a
bait to a disastrous fall (Genesis 3:1-6).
·
Lot looked and
the land was beautiful, and he was deceived by colourful lands, not knowing it
was a land marked for destruction. In the end, he lost everything including his
wife except his life and two daughters’ (Genesis 13:7-13).
·
David was drawn
away by what he saw (Uriah’s wife); the end was murder and tears (2
Samuel 11).
·
Samson forgot
who he was because of what he saw (Delilah). He started going down and ended up
down (Judges
14).
God
asked Jeremiah, “What seest thou?” Jeremiah said, “I see a rod of an almond.”
And God said, “Thou hast seen well” (Jeremiah 1:11-12). Jeremiah saw change.
He saw manifestation. He became an agent of change.
If
you don’t change what you are seeing, what you are seeing will change you. “But
we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are
changed into the same image” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
How To See Well;
1. Perhaps God has to pluck out those eyes that lust
and long for “colours”. It happened to Samson, and then his hairs that had been
cut off started growing again.
“But the Philistines took him, and put out his
eyes...howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven” (Judges
16:21-22).
Restoration happens when “those lustful eyes are
plucked out”
2. Come up again!
Samson’s problems started when he went DOWN.
“And Samson went DOWN to Timnath, and SAW a woman in
Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines” (Judges 14:1, Emphasis mine).
The man used to be UP, but when he went DOWN, he SAW
what brought him into trouble. Perhaps, his prayer life, fasting life, vigil
life, study life, fellowship life went down, and he began to see wrong things, long
for colours, and lust for strange things and women.
He didn’t stop there, he even made his parents (with
all their angelic encounters) go DOWN with him; “Then went Samson down, and his
father and his mother...” (Judges 14:5). Samson brought a family
lukewarmness and compromise!
Friend, may your life not go down!!!
Finally;
Do
not allow the things which are seen take you away from the invisible things (reserved
in Heaven). It is written; “While we look not at the things which are
seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are
temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Prayer;
1. Father, may no temporary thing or pleasure take me
away from the things which are eternal
2. Lord, every eye that constitute an offense to my
eternity, pluck out in Jesus’ name.
“And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and
cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should
perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell” (Matthew 5:29).
3. Lord, give me ‘an eye for an Eye’; take my eyes and
give me yours...let me behold gracious and eternal things in Jesus’ name.
